Liaison lecturers for Bachelor's & Master's students
In the winter semester 2008/2009, the office of liaison lecturer in cases of discrimination against students was newly created. All faculties are required to appoint a liaison lecturer; in addition, there are two central liaison lecturers who can be contacted regardless of faculty and who are responsible for coordinating the activities of the contact persons in the individual faculties and for overarching issues.
The liaison lecturers in the Department of Mathematics are responsible for dealing with discrimination in traditional areas such as skin color, ethnic origin, religion, gender, age and sexual orientation and also act as mediators in conflicts between students and lecturers or persons involved in teaching tasks, examination boards, the examination office and other students.
Liaison lecturers of the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science
Kathrin Bringmann has been a professor at the Institute of Mathematics since 2008. Her working group is always very diverse.
She is happy to advise on all matters relating to equality and anti-discrimination in German and English.
Sander Zwegers has been Professor of Number Theory at the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science since 2011. He gives lectures on linear algebra, algebra and number theory, and is involved in numerous committees. He is the ombudsperson of the Department of Mathematics and is available as a contact person for students. He can be contacted in German, English or Dutch.
The procedure:
All liaison lecturers can initially be contacted by post or email. They then decide whether a procedure is necessary and whether they are responsible in this case. The parties will then be heard separately and an amicable solution will be sought. If this is not successful, the matter will be referred to higher university authorities.
All reports or inquiries are treated with absolute confidentiality! After initial contact by e-mail, a personal meeting can be arranged. Confidentiality remains assured as long as it is desired and possible.
