Two members of Cologne Mathematics give an invited section talk at ICM 2026 in Philadelphia
The Mathematics Devision of the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science is delighted that two of our colleagues - Ms. Schroll and Mr. Vallentin - have been selected by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) to give an invited section talk at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026 in Philadelphia.
The ICM takes place every four years and is the world's most important international mathematics conference. The event looks back on a long and historic tradition: in 1900, David Hilbert presented ten of his famous 23 unsolved mathematical problems at the second ICM in Paris - which are now known as "Hilbert's problems" and have had a significant influence on the development of mathematics to this day.
Since the first official ICM in Zurich in 1897, the congress has been of outstanding importance within the mathematical community and enjoys international media attention. Renowned awards such as the Fields Medal, the Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize, the Chern Medal and the IMU Abacus Medal are presented at the ICM.
Ms. Schroll will speak in the "Algebra" section and Mr. Vallentin in the "Control Theory and Optimization" section.
