Erasmus at the Mathematical Institute
The Erasmus Programme is an EU funded program which encourages students in higher education to spend part of their studies in another European country. Studying abroad can be a life changing experience. You will gain new perspectives on your academic subject, acquire new or improved language skills, return more motivated, independent and confident. Moreover, you will learn a range of life-skills not taught in the lecture hall and this will enhance your career prospects.
You can find basic information about the ERASMUS program for students at the University of Cologne here!

Letter of motivation / proposed study plan abroad
The letter of motivation is the central element of your application.
In this letter, please describe clearly and convincingly:
- Why do you want to study abroad?
- What exactly would you like to study or focus on during your stay?
- How does your plan fit into your previous course of studies?
- How can your plan be realized at your chosen host university?
- What role does the study abroad period play in your future academic and professional career?
Tip: Take sufficient time to research and carefully formulate your study plan.
Online Learning Agreement (OLA)
The Learning Agreement must be signed online by you, your home university, and the host university BEFORE the start of your study period abroad. Please make sure to take care of this as early as possible.
To support outgoing students in using the OLA, we have prepared a guide for the registration process. The OLA can be created either via the website as described above or alternatively via the Erasmus+ App.
Central Erasmus-Coordination (International Office)
The administrative organization and financial management of your study abroad stay are handled by the International Office. This includes:
